12 Days of Prayer and Fasting

What is Focus 12?

We invite all members of Riverstone Chapel to join us in Focus12; a twelve-day offering and prayer. As God guides our church in this new year, we have committed to spending a season at the beginning of this year dedicated to prayer and fasting. As a church we want to set aside time in our lives for focused communication with God: praising Him, listening to His guidance, and asking for Him to accomplish His will in our lives, our city, our nation, and our world.

We will be participating in what the early church called the "black fast". This is a fast where the participants do not eat anything other than one meal per day after sunset. We will be fasting during daylight hours from January 3 until sunset on January 14.

Why?

WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?

Jesus himself fasted and prayed to the Father, and so did His disciples. Not only do we have biblical role models to follow in fasting and prayer, but Jesus even said that we should fast (Matthew 9:15). Fasting was a regular part of the life of the early church that we have recently lost in our current culture. The purpose of fasting is to draw near to God so that you may hear from Him more clearly and to demonstrate our complete and total reliance on Him. The goal of fasting is not just to cut food out of your life; it's to draw closer to God. So yes, we are abstaining from food, but we are doing it for the purpose of making the time to draw near to God and being obedient to the scriptures.

Who is this for?

We are encouraging all members of Riverstone Chapel to join us in Focus 12. For hundreds of years, all Christians fasted weekly on Wednesdays and Fridays, it was a normal part of what it meant to be a Christian

We do not have a formal membership at Riverstone Chapel, but if you consider this your church home, we would love for you to be a part of this mission.
